Family law
1. The main objectives of the Family Law Commission (FLC) are:
• Establish genuine collaboration between its members.
• Study international family law issues.
• Raise awareness of family law issues.
• Bring new lawyers to the FLC.
• Establish specific goals.
2. We carried out a survey among the theoretical members of the FLC, which showed that 37 of them were in fact active. In accordance with the FLC agreement adopted at our last meeting in Bucharest in November, we will only send FLC communications to these active members.
3. Since May 2008, we have been working on a monthly newsletter with news and contributions from members, and by virtue of the agreement reached in the FLC's internal meeting in Madrid, this will be published monthly.
4. FLC Internal meetings: last year, the FLC held three meetings in Madrid, Lima and Bucharest. These meetings sought to develop the FLC's objectives, and to organize seminars annually.
5. Organization of seminars: We are currently preparing a seminar that will be held in 2010.
6. Participation in the UIA Annual Congress with presentations by members of different countries. In 2008, the FLC was one of the commissions with the largest number of particpants (100 in one day) and speakers (11 from ten countries).
7. Another objective of the FLC is to publish articles in Juriste magazine every quarter. The first article (by our President, Luis Navarro Zarraluqui) was published in the last issue.
8. The FLC has established an international exchange program between law firms, which we want to start developing this summer.
