The UIA Insolvency Commission could be considered to be one of the Commissions with major international involvement, as the insolvency of a company that is established in one country affects its affiliates, suppliers, workers and creditors in other countries.
Moreover, its tasks are closely linked with other working committees, primarily those for procedural law, foreign investment and trade law and regularly with the marital and inheritance law committees.
It is precisely for this reason that the Commission has taken an active part in the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), Working Group V (Insolvency Law) since 2008, bringing its practical point of view to the international law maker.
The Commission carries out its work through its members with work and attending the sessions that are held in Vienna and New York every six months.
The same reason encourages attorneys from all over the world to form part from this Commission, thus bringing a valuable personal vision on Insolvency Law.
The Insolvency Commission takes an active part in the annual congress held by the UIA, providing speakers to other committees that deal with matters related to insolvency and holds a monographic session with local specialists who usually work in different insolvency law jurisdictions.
In addition, each year features a specialist, usually a Judge from the country where the Congress is held, who gives a presentation that focuses on insolvency in his/her home country, so that over the years the exact situation in each country is clarified.
During the year the Commission holds two meetings with a high attendance of its members; newsletters are issued with the most punctual news from the commission; scientific work is raised in order to complete the database of the commission.
The Commission also publishes reports from specialist journals.
Ultimately, the Commission conducts its work through its members, all of whom are specialized in insolvency law, and has great interest in involving specialists from around the world.
