Welcome to the UIA's Commissions Website!
UIA proposes that its members join in the work being undertaken by several Commissions specializing in specific areas of the law – business law, general practice and human rights.
Each of UIA's Commission and Working Groups is composed of lawyers from jurisdictions spreading across the world, practicing in private firms or public sector companies and institutions.
The primary objective of UIA's Commissions is to study developments related to a specific field of law. The Commissions also aim at determining to what extent these developments are likely to affect or be affected by other fields of law.
Consequently, all UIA's Commissions work together, in order to keep themselves informed of the latest developments in their respective fields. Most Commissions publish newsletters during the periods between annual Congresses and gladly accept contributions from members who wish to have their work better known to other lawyers specializing in the same field in other countries.
Moreover, Commission members work in a friendly and collegial atmosphere that is favorable to the exchange of information and knowledge, especially during UIA's annual congresses, but also during many other occasions, such as its specialized seminars or a number of other events that are held.
Today, UIA is composed of Commissions and Working Groups divided into two main categories: General Practice and Human Rights and Business Law.
